Other Ideas:
- In this recipe Paneer can be replaced with any vegetable or chicken. The cookinf time for chicken will be longer.
- Paneer Tikka can be served without the gravy as barbeque snacks. Sprinkle some chaat masala on it and serve with green chutney. (the recipe for green chutney is in the next post. )
Notes:
- To make Paneer- refer to the following post from the basic recipes section. http://cookeasy.wordpress.com/2006/11/05/make-paneer-at-home/
- To make 1/2 cup thick yogurt- put a little more 1/2 cut yogurt on the sieve and leave it in the fridge for about 1/2 an hour.
- The other indian spices are readiliy available in Indian Grocery stores.

Thank you Rachna – this is great recipe, i tried it today.
I only have one suggestion – i think 2 cups is a lot of tomato puree for suggested quantity. perhaps a cup is in order. Just a thought.
Please don’t mind the suggestion.

Helloo
Thankyou so much. We actually tried this today. and it came out to be great. yum yum!!!
I agree with Jignesh. 2-3 cups of tomato is a lot. my mom used 1 cup only, and it came out to be great. same goes with the amount of red chilli, we too thought that it was a little too much. as it is in both the paneer and in the gravy.
but overall, it was a great, and we will be having it more. Thanks a lot!!

Good Recipe, though it is inconsistent. Ingredients for gravy states usage of Tandori Masala, however, step 3 of the cooking mentions usage of Garam Masala.. Please update recipe.

I cant WAIT to make this recipe, this is my favorite dish, but due to an unfortunate nut allergy, I can no longer eat it at my favorite restaurant. I cant wait to try making it myself at home, i miss this meal more than any i have been unable to eat since developing my allergy!

April 18, 2008 at 9:00 am
Hi Rachna ,
10x for the reicpe,
I made it today and was very delicious,
but the gravy was not liquid enough ,
should I add more water next time ?
or maybe milk ?
April 19, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Rafiji,
Thank you for your compliments.
You can add more water, and accordingly you might have to add some more spices. If you prefer, you can add milk, but the gravy might become too heavy. Water is the safest choice.

Thanks Rachna, this is the 2nd time I am using this receipy, I am giving this link to some of my american friends as well who enjoy Indian food, especially curry!!!
May 17, 2008 at 8:20 am
Thanks JD. They will love it too. I served a similar curry to my friends here, and they loved it. The only change I did was reduce the quantity of each spice a little bit.

This is an awesome recipe. My husband wanted me to make a dish for party only if can turnout like a restaurant. I convinced him i may be able to pull that off. The tomato of 2 cups in my opinion is good. You need to keep cooking till the sauce reduces to a good consistence (almost like tomato ketchup) and it does’nt seem like a lot…Infact, it increases the flavor. I bought the organic whole peeled canned tomato.
Thanks for the recipe.
May 27, 2008 at 7:55 pm
That’s a handy tip Lakshmiji. Whole canned tomatoes are infact more flavorful than the regular tomatoes from the fresh produce section.
If time permits, slow cooking the sauce is ideal. It gives the sauce enough time to soak in the flavors. In traditioal preparations, a lot of indian curries are slow cooked
(sometimes all day).

I tried this recipe and it turned out excellent! My friends were so impressed with my culinary skills LOL! The only corrections I would make are: 1-1.5 cups yogurt for marinating and also, sear or barbecue veggies/paneer BEFORE marinating. I do marinate overnight so all flavors are well absorbed by paneer and veggies. Thanks for a great recipe!
November 6, 2008 at 10:16 pm
am gonna cook this tomorrow for a barbecue t a friends place…this sounds so yummy!my mouth wattters! just hope I make it the right way!!
thanks!

This is a keeper recipe. Am directing traffic your way!!!Thanks a lot for the recipe
February 23, 2009 at 1:50 pm
This recipe was amazing; I’ve made it twice – once by grilling and once in oven. The griling def adds lot more flavor than the oven. I did have to add a little water to the sauce for a better consistency. But the flavors were great, family and friends loved it. Thanks!
